Documents Menu

 

From the Documents Menu, you can easily manage all the work you've done within Verbum. Create new documents with a click, recall all your work with faceted searching, and share your research with other Verbum users.

Note: This feature is available to all users.

To open the Documents Menu in its own window, click the Documents icon Documents Menu icon in your main toolbar. To open the Documents Menu in a docked panel, right-click the Documents icon Documents Menu icon and select Open in a new tab from the options.

Create a Document

To create any type of document from the Documents Menu, click the New button in the toolbar. Choose from the following document types:

Note: Several of these document types can also be created from other areas within Verbum. Click the Learn more links to discover additional ways to access these documents.

Bibliography

Create a list of resources suitable for publications, classes, homilies, etc. based on a variety of Verbum milestones. Multiple formats are available.

Canvas

Create an interactive visual with the selected text by capturing, organizing, and sharing your thoughts on any passage of any resource in your library.

Clippings

Collect section(s) of a single resource or multiple resources under a single heading (For example, “C.S. Lewis quotes.”).

Build complex morphological queries using a point-and-click interface. The Morph Query document provides several capabilities not available in the regular Morph Search.

Build a list of passages from scratch or from predetermined criteria.

Use a template to record prayer requests and set the frequency for praying for the items on the list.

Reading Plan

Create a plan to read a resource in your library. Available options include the amount of text to read, the frequency of reading, a target date for completion, and whether you want to do this by yourself or with one of your groups.

Find a Document

The Documents Menu gives you several ways to sort and find your documents. Once you have found your document, click the line to select it or click the document name to open the document. 

 

Find Box

If you know the name (or partial name) of the document you're looking for, simply begin typing the name into the Find Box in the toolbar and select your document when it appears.

Headings

Click the Name, Type, and Date headings to sort by respective ascending or descending order. For example, clicking the Type heading once sorts the documents by type alphabetically, clicking it twice sorts them in reverse alphabetical order, and clicking it a third time returns to the default order.

Filters

The Documents Menu features a Sidebar with a variety of filters that can help you find a document when you're unsure of its name. Click the Sidebar icon Hamburger icon in the toolbar to reveal the filters and select as many filters as you'd like to narrow your search. 

Note: Available filters vary depending on whether you have selected Yours, Groups, or Public.

Groups: Documents shared between you and your Faithlife groups.

Public: Documents created and shared by other Verbum users.

Edit a Document

Edit a Document's Metadata

Each document you create includes metadata, some of which you can edit. To view and edit this metadata, select a document by clicking the line (do not click the document name) and clicking the Info button Info icon in the toolbar. This opens the Info Panel, where you can add a description or tags, preview, share, duplicate, or delete the document.

Note: Clicking Preview opens a document preview at documents.logos.com. Some document types, such as Visual filters and Collections, display a blank page in Preview mode.

Edit a Document's Content

If you'd like to edit the document itself, simply click the document name to open the document in its respective Verbum tool. For instance, clicking the name of a Homily Document opens that document in the Homily Builder tool, where you have full editing access to the document content.

Delete a Document

To delete a document, right-click the document and select Delete. Alternatively, drag the document to the Trash section of the Sidebar menu.

Restore a Deleted Document

Click Trash at the bottom of the Sidebar menu.

Verbum directs you to documents.logos.com which displays all of your Verbum documents that have been synced with Faithlife's servers. Toggle the document filter to Deleted (the default option is Available).

Hover over a document and click Undelete to restore the document to your local installation.

Share a Document

Share Publicly or with a Group

1. Select your document.

Click Documents Menu icon Documents and select the document you wish to share by clicking the document line. Once you select a document,   Share changes from inactive to active. 

Note: Clicking the document name opens the document in a new panel.

2. Share your document.

Click   Share. Verbum opens a dialog box of sharing options.

To make the document public, click the radio slider to change the answer from No to Yes. This generates a link that can be copied and shared or embedded in another application. Once you make a document public, any Verbum user is able to find, view, and access your document through the Public tab.

To share the document with a group, click the Group tab. Expand the menu and select the group you wish to share your document with. If you want other group members to be able to edit this document, check Collaborate.

Verbum makes your document available to others.

 

Unshare a Document

The Share button also allows you to change the sharing options for a document that you have previously shared.

To unshare a document with a Group:

 

1. Select the document you want to unshare.

Click Documents Menu iconDocuments and select the Yours tab. Select the document you wish to unshare by clicking the document line and click   Share.

 

2. Change Group access.

Click Change sharing. Uncheck the group you wish to un-share the document with.

 

3. Click Done.

The document is no longer available to group members.

 

To unshare a Public document:

 

1. Select the document you want to unshare.

Click Documents Menu iconDocuments and select the Yours tab. Select the document you wish to unshare by clicking the document line and click   Share.

 

2. Change Public access.

Under the Public tab, click the radio slider from Yes to No.

 

3. Click Done

The document is no longer available to other users.

Note: If another user creates a duplicate of your document, the duplicate is now owned by that user and is not deleted from their installation when you unshare your document.

 

Add a Shared Document

You can access documents shared by other users and add them to your local installation.

Note: Documents created using features and/or resources not included in your Verbum collection are visible but not accessible to you.

Find the document you'd like to add in the Public or Groups tab. Select a document (do not click the document name) and click Add to your docs. Verbum adds the document to your installation.

To find your documents in the mobile app, tap the More Items Menu Hamburger icon at the bottom of your screen and scroll down to the Documents section.

Create a Document

In the Documents section of the More Items Menu Hamburger icon, tap the arrow Arrow - Closed icon next to the document type you'd like to create. In the expanded menu, tap the Plus icon Plus - Add New icon in the top right corner to create a new document.

To add a new document on a tablet, open the Documents Menu, click the Plus icon Plus - Add New icon in the top right corner of the menu, and select the document type you'd like to add.

To find a document on a tablet, simply open the Documents Menu Documents icon and search or scroll to find your document.

In the Documents section of the More Items Menu Hamburger icon, tap the arrow Arrow - Closed icon next to a document type to view all documents of that type. Select the document you'd like to edit to open it in a new tab, where you can edit its content.

Share a Document

To share a document publicly or with a Faithlife group from within Verbum itself, open the Verbum desktop app or open Verbum in a web browser. You can share Verbum documents from a mobile device by navigating to documents.logos.com in a web browser. See this article for more details on sharing documents.
