Important Passages Guide Section

The Important Passages Guide creates a list of related passages and demonstrates the relationship to your base passage. While traditional cross-reference tools are helpful, they don’t clearly highlight the specific connection between the passage you’re studying and the related passage. Use the Important Passages Guide to see shared cultural concepts, shared themes, parallel passages, and more!

Accessing the Important Passages Guide

There are two ways to quickly access the Important Passages Guide:

1. Click Guides, type “important” into the search box, and click Important Passages.

   

2. Access the Important Passage Guide as a part of the larger Passage Guide. To generate a Passage Guide from the Guides menu click Guides > Passage Guide.

   

    

Generate and Filter the Important Passages List

In the open Important Passages Guide, enter the base passage you will be searching for in the search box in the upper left corner.

Note: You can also link to the Important Passages Guide to an open bible so that a fresh Important Passages list is generated as you move through your passage. Learn more about creating Link Sets.

In this example, we’ll look for important passages related to Galatians 3:28. Notice that the Important Passages Guide has several options for filtering the results: references To or From your passage can be filtered by Rank or Type.

 

References To your Passage

Passages may be related to one another either because they are referencing or being referenced by another passage. Select To all passages to show passages that Galatians 3:28 references by selecting To from the dropdown.

 

References From your Passage

Select From your passage, to show passages that reference Galatians 3:28 by selecting From from the dropdown.

Note: The Important Passages Guide will default to showing you references To all passages.

 

References by Rank

Click By Rank to further filter the results showing you which passages are most closely related to Galatians 3:28. Notice, in this example, that the Guide has identified Colossians 3:11 as most closely related to Galatians 3:28 based on 8 shared features all listed below the passage.

 

References by Type

Click By Type to filter your results according to the relationship the base passage has to other passages. In this example, you can show results that have shared cultural concepts with Galatians 3:28 along with any other type of shared content.

 

Save Results as a Passage List

At the bottom of the panel, you will find links to Save as Passage List and Open # passages in [Preferred Bible]. Saving as a Passage List allows for further customizable search specifications in your study. Learn more about Passage Lists and how to use them in your study process.
