Collections are individually created, customizable groups of resources, which can be accessed and searched specifically in several places within Verbum.

Include a collection in a guide
Save as a Verbum bibliography document
Create a new collection
-
Click Tools > Library > Collections.
-
A dialog to create a new Unnamed Collection will open.
- Replace “Unnamed Collection” with a unique name.
Note: If the name matches another collection title, a “(2)” will be added to the end of the title.
-
Select the Show in parallel resources check box to make the collection available in Parallel resource sets.
-
Use the Rule field to add specific items in your Library to the Collection with the example below showing how to add all of your commentaries to the Collection:
-
You can use different filters in the Rule field to add specific sets of resources to your collection.
-
Specific resources such as those in a particular commentary series
-
Specific subjects:
-
Use tags you have added to resources in your Library and mytag:[tagname] to narrow the list of books by that tag.
Note: This is especially useful if, for instance, you're aiming to create a rule based on an attribute like series, but the resources you want to add are from several different series.
-
Full query syntax is supported. Use operators such as AND, OR, and ANDNOT to refine your rules.
As the rule is typed, results will appear under = Resulting Collection. If the resulting collection is acceptable, the process is complete. If there are missing or unwanted resources, proceed to steps 7 and 8.
When new books are added to the Library, those that match the Rules of a particular collection will be automatically added to it.
-
- To add a resource that is not captured by the rule you’ve defined, open your Library and drag the desired resource to the + Plus these resources section.
- To remove an unwanted resource from the collection, drag it to the - Minus these resources section.
-
Note: Collections will only show resources that are downloaded to your computer, so the filter rules only take those resources into account when creating a Collection.
Modify a collection
To modify an existing Collection, click Open and choose a collection to modify.
After opening the Collection you can modify it in a range of ways:
-
Add or remove items from the Rule field;
-
More resources can be dragged from the Library to the + Plus these resources section; or
-
A resource in the - Minus these resources section can be removed, which will place it back in the = Resulting Collection.
Entire collections can also be dragged into the + Plus (or - Minus) these resources section:
-
Click Open to view your collections.
-
Drag the desired Collection from the drop-down menu to the appropriate section.
All resources from that collection will then be added to or removed from the = Resulting Collection section.
Search within a collection
You can quickly and easily limit a search to a particular Collection by clicking the resource selection button (All Books in the image below), scrolling down to the Collections section, and selecting the Collection you want to search within.

Include a collection in a guide
After you've built a Collection, you can add it as a section in various Guides. So whether you're running a Passage Guide on John 14:6 or a Topic Guide keyed to "Kingdom of God," Verbum will search the entirety of the Collection you set for that search term.
To add a Collection to your selected Guide:
-
Click Add at the top of the Guide.
-
Drag a Collections section to where you want it in the Guide
- Click the Settings dropdown and select the Collection you want to add to your Guide.
Note: You can add multiple Collections to your Guide by repeating the steps above.
