Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts can provide a significant time savings over using your mouse. To speed up tasks you do regularly, try some of the keyboard shortcuts listed below.

 

Keyboard Shortcuts (Mac)

General

In this, and other Verbum How-To articles, we abbreviate key names so that:

  • Cmd — Command
  • Opt — Option 

 

These keyboard shortcuts are available throughout macOS.

  • Cmd+C — Copy
  • Cmd+H — Hide windows
  • Cmd+M — Minimize
  • Cmd+P — Print
  • Cmd+Q — Quit Verbum
  • Cmd+V — Paste
  • Cmd+W — Close
  • Cmd+X — Cut
  • Cmd+Z — Undo
  • Cmd+Tab — Unhide windows
  • Shift+Cmd+G — Opens the “Go to Folder” window (use this to open hidden folders)
  • Shift+Cmd+Z — Redo

 

Verbum-Specific

These keyboard shortcuts are specific to Verbum. 

  • Backspace — Clear Page in Drawing Mode
  • Cmd+D — Add current location to Favorites
  • Cmd+F — Find (in this panel)
  • Cmd+K — Apply Highlighting
  • Cmd+L — Show Library
  • Cmd+O — Open/close Documents menu
  • Cmd+P — Open Print/Export panel
  • Cmd+R — Read Aloud
  • Cmd+W — Close current panel
  • Cmd+[ — Back in History
  • Cmd+] — Forward in History
  • Cmd+ — Go to next window (moves between floating windows and main window)
  • Cmd+1...9 — Navigate to Bookmark (1-9)
  • Cmd+F8 — Enter Drawing Mode (on some keyboards, Fn-Cmd-F8 may be necessary)
  • Cmd+Down arrow — End (e.g., last article)
  • Cmd+Up arrow — Home (e.g., title page)
  • Cmd+T — Open new tab
  • Cmd+Shift+T — Reopen last closed tab
  • Ctrl+Tab — Go to next tab
  • Ctrl+Shift+Tab — Go to previous tab
  • Esc — Dismiss / Exit Drawing mode / Exit Find box
  • F7 — Quick comparison of the active verse/selected text
  • Left arrow — Navigate to previous parallel resource
  • Right arrow — Navigate to next parallel resource
  • Opt+Cmd+C — Copy location as [URL] [HTML] [L4] [Wiki] [RL]
  • Opt+Cmd+F — Open panel in floating window
  • Opt+Cmd+L — Focus Command bar
  • Opt+Cmd+R — Show Reading View
  • Opt+Cmd+W — Close all panels
  • Opt+Shift+Cmd+F — Dock panel or tab
  • Opt+Shift+Cmd+1...9 —  Set Bookmark (1-9)
  • Shift+Cmd+C — Show/Hide Table of Contents
  • Shift+Cmd+E — Replace a reference typed into an app that uses Services with the passage
  • Shift+Cmd+F — Show/Hide Inline Search
  • Shift+Cmd+H — Show Home
  • Shift+Cmd+I – Show Resource Information
  • Shift+Cmd+K — Erase Highlighting
  • Shift+Cmd+L — Show/Hide Locator Bar
  • Shift+Cmd+M — Toggle Multiple Resources on/off
  • Shift+Cmd+N — Copy this panel to a new tab
  • Shift+Cmd+P — Columns (paged view)
  • Shift+Cmd+S — Open Search
  • Shift+Cmd+T – Reopen last closed tab
  • Shift+Cmd+Opt+V — Paste without formatting
  • Shift+Cmd+ — Go to previous window (moves between floating windows and main window)
  • Shift+Cmd+] — Go to next tab
  • Shift+Cmd+[ — Go to previous tab
  • Shift+Cmd+Down arrow — Go to next verse, chapter, article, etc.
  • Shift+Cmd+Up arrow — Go to previous verse, chapter, article, etc.

  • Shift+Cmd+Left arrow — Go to previous equivalent resource
  • Shift+Spacebar — Page Up in a resource
  • Spacebar — Page Down in a resource

 

Rich Text (Notes) Editor

The following shortcuts apply to the Notes text editor.

  • Cmd+A — Select All
  • Cmd+B — Bold
  • Cmd+C — Copy
  • Cmd+E — Align Center
  • Cmd+I — Italic
  • Cmd+K — Insert Hyperlink
  • Cmd+L — Align Left
  • Cmd+] — Increase Indent (in lists only)
  • Cmd+[ — Decrease Indent (in lists only)
  • Cmd+R — Align Right
  • Cmd+U — Underline
  • Cmd+V — Paste
  • Cmd+X — Cut
  • Cmd+Z — Undo
  • Cmd+. — Bulleted list
  • Cmd+/ — Numbered list
  • Cmd+= — Subscript
  • Cmd+Shift++ — Superscript
  • Cmd+Shift+F — Change Font Family
  • Cmd+Shift+P — Change Font Size
  • Cmd+Shift+K — Toggle Small Caps
  • Cmd+Shift+U — Toggle Strikethrough (not currently supported)
  • Cmd+Shift+Z — Redo

 

Copy Bible Verses

  • Opt+Cmd+B  — Global shortcut to open Copy Bible Verses tool in a floating window from any macOS application (if Verbum is running).
  • Shift+Cmd+J — Global shortcut to open Copy Bible Verses tool in a floating window from any macOS application that use Services (if Verbum is running).

General

These keyboard shortcuts are available throughout the Windows OS.

  • Alt+left arrow  — Go back
  • Alt+right arrow  — Go forward
  • Alt+F4  — Close program
  • Alt+space  — Activate window menu
  • Ctrl+=  — Zoom in
  • Ctrl+-  — Zoom out
  • Ctrl+A  — Select all
  • Ctrl+C  — Copy
  • Ctrl+P — Opens the Print/Export dialog
  • Ctrl+Tab  — Go to next tab
  • Ctrl+T  — Open new tab
  • Ctrl+V  — Paste
  • Ctrl+X  — Cut
  • Ctrl+Y  — Redo
