A Verbum subscription brings with it a new look to the toolbar at the top of the panels in your layout, providing a set of tabs enabling you to interact with your books in a variety of different ways. Those who choose not to subscribe will continue with the previous resource toolbar.
If you find yourself wondering where your favorite features and buttons went, look no further. This article will show you how to access the tools on the dynamic toolbar.
The contents of this article are organized by locations in the resource toolbar. To find what you're looking for, navigate to the section addressing that part of the resource toolbar to find the equivalent way of accessing that functionality in the dynamic toolbar.

Using the Left Sidebar - Table of Contents, Favorites and Notes
The left sidebar in the resource toolbar provides the ability to:
- Engage with the table of contents of the book
- Filter the book by notes or highlights that you have made in the book
- Look up and flag favorite sections in a book
Each of these are accessed via a different tab in the sidebar.
With the dynamic toolbar, the table of contents functionality is now accessible using the Contents button in the Home tab.
The notes filtering functionality is now available using the Notes filter button in the Notes tab.
Finally, Favorites are now accessed using the Favorites button in the Home tab.
Inline Search
The Inline Search button in the resource toolbar provides the ability to search for words, phrases or more complex search terms within the book you are currently reading. With the dynamic toolbar, this is available from the Search tab.
Using Visual Filters
The Visual Filters button in the resource toolbar provides the ability to change the way information is displayed, emphasize text in different ways, and apply a range of filters. It has a number of sections each of which provide different functionality.
It is this area, along with the panel menu, which has seen the most significant changes. Each section will be examined in turn.
Corresponding text in other books
In the resource toolbar, this provides the ability to apply temporary highlights in one book when another book is open and showing search results (the first option) or with some text selected within it (the second option). With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided through the Emphasize sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Emphasize
In the resource toolbar, this provides the ability to highlight where words (in various forms) were repeated in a text, to see where words with lexicon articles open to them appeared in the text, and where a number of people had highlighted the same portions of text. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided through the Emphasize sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Addressees and Speakers
In the resource toolbar, toggling the display of addressees and speakers within the text is done using the Markers section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Markers sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Linking to Media
In the resource toolbar, toggling the display of media items within the text is done using the Media on this passage section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Markers sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Notes and Highlights
In the resource toolbar, toggling the display of notes and highlights within the text is done using the Notes and highlights section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Show notes and highlights sub-menu in the Notes tab.
Corresponding Notes and Highlights
In the resource toolbar, this provides the ability to display, in one book, highlights and texts made in another book with matching indices – such as verses. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is available at the bottom of the notebooks listed under the Show notes and highlights sub-menu in the Notes tab.
Filtering by Passage List
In the resource toolbar, filtering the text by Passage List is done using the Passage Lists section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Filter by Passage Lists sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Reformatting How the Text is Displayed
In the resource toolbar, different options for formatting the text are available through the Reformat section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Reformat sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Using Visual Filters
In the resource toolbar, toggling the use of Visual Filters is enabled through the Visual Filters section of the visual filter menu. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Show Visual Filters sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Factbook Tags
The Factbook Tags icon and dropdown provide the ability to toggle display of Factbook tags in the book and to select which types of tags should be displayed. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided through the Factbook Tags sub-menu in the Formatting tab.
Interlinears
The Interlinears icon and dropdown in the resource toolbar provide the ability to toggle reverse interlinears; to select whether to display the Inline Reverse Interlinear, the Reverse Interlinear Pane or both; and to select which lines to show in the Inline Reverse Interlinear. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Interlinear Options sub-menu in the View tab.
Displaying Multiple Books
The Multiple books display icon and dropdown in the resource toolbar provide the ability to add parallel books to the panel. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided (including toggling this display) through the Add parallel text sub-menu in the View tab.
Switch to a Different Book
The Parallel Books Sets icon and dropdown in the resource toolbar provide the ability to switch to a parallel book with the same milestone. With the dynamic toolbar, this same functionality is provided using the Change book button.
Navigation History
Returning to previous locations in a book is achieved using the navigation arrows towards the right of the resource toolbar, or by clicking the small arrow on their right to see location history. In the dynamic toolbar, this functionality is available through the navigation arrows on the left of the toolbar, or by right-clicking either arrow to see location history.
Using the Auto-Translate Feature
The Auto-Translate feature is accessed from the right sidebar in the resource toolbar. When using the dynamic toolbar, this is accessed using the Translate button in the Tools tab.
Summarizing Articles
The Summarize feature is accessed from the right sidebar in the resource toolbar. When using the dynamic toolbar, this is accessed using the Summarize button in the Tools tab.
Accessing the Insights Panel
The Insights Panel is accessed from the right sidebar in the resource toolbar. When using the dynamic toolbar, this is accessed using the Insights button in the Home tab.
Changes to the Panel Menu
The panel menu, when using the resource toolbar, provides access to a lot of functionality whereas much of this has been moved to the dynamic toolbar, with some new functionality added as well.
The orange labels show the functionality that has been retained in the dynamic toolbar, while the blue labels show additional functionality that has been added.
Other functionality has been distributed across the dynamic toolbar as outlined below.
The Text Size Slider
This slider provide the ability to change the default text size for the open resource. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available using the Zoom controls in the View tab.
Linkset Controls
These controls provide the ability to add a resource to a linkset or remove links from all open panels. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available using the Link set controls in the Home tab.
Find Information About a Resource
This provides the ability to get detailed information about the open resource. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available using the Show Information button in the Home tab.
Start a Reading Plan
This provides the ability to start a new reading plan in the open book. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available using the Show Reading plans sub-menu in the Formatting tab. This sub-menu also provides the ability to see any currently defined reading plans within the book.
Show the Locator Bar
The Show locator bar option in the resource toolbar opens the location bar which shows the position in the current book. In the dynamic toolbar, this is done using the Locator bar button in the View tab.
In the resource toolbar, the locator bar provides the ability to specify the "scroll unit" through the book and has navigation arrows to carry out that scrolling. In the dynamic toolbar, this functionality is provided by the Article sub-menu and associated navigation buttons in the Home tab.
Show the Left Sidebar
The Show left sidebar option in the resource toolbar opens a panel on the left of the resource that contains tabs for the table of contents, notes & highlights and favorites. These are distributed to different places in the dynamic toolbar - for details, please see the section above on the Left Sidebar.
Show the Right Sidebar
The Show right sidebar option in the resource toolbar opens a panel on the right of the resource that contains tabs for the Auto-Translate tool, the Summarization tool and the Insights panel. These are distributed to different places in the dynamic toolbar - for details, please see the sections above on Auto-Translate, Summarization and the Insights Panel.
Enable the Interlinear Pane
This provides the ability to turn on the reverse interlinear (if available) in the currently open book. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available by opening the Interlinear sub-menu in the View tab, turning on the Interlinear display and selecting the Reverse Interlinear Pane.
Show Inline Search
This opens the Inline Search panel in the currently open book. In the dynamic toolbar, this is available in the Search tab.
Read Aloud
These controls are used to start / stop the reading aloud of the contents of the currently open book. In the dynamic toolbar, this is accessed using the Read Aloud drop-down menu in the Tools tab.
Print and Export
This is used to either print or export the contents of the currently open book to a word processor, etc. In the dynamic toolbar, this is done using the Print / Export button in the Tools tab.
Specify Columns and Footnotes
These controls are used to toggle between scrolling and paged views and, when in paged view, determine whether or not you want footnotes to be shown at the bottom of the page. In the dynamic toolbar, this is done using the Paged view sub-menu in the View tab.
Enter Full-Screen Mode
This is used to view the currently open resource in full-screen mode. In the dynamic toolbar, this is done using the Enter full screen button in the View tab.
Copy Location
This provides a number of options for copying the current location in the open book. In the dynamic toolbar, this has been replaced by a number of Copy controls in the Share tab.
Accessing Help
The Help about this feature option opens the Help Center to provide contextual and reference information while the Show help card option shows a popup with brief information about the panel and a link back to the Help Center. In the dynamic toolbar, this has been replaced by a single link to the Help Center using the Help about this feature button in the Home tab.
