Biblical Event Navigator

The Biblical Event Navigator Tool provides the ability to see how the overall biblical story is broken down into its smaller components, and where particular events fit within the wider story. As such, it is really helpful in understanding the context and positioning of particular passages.

Skip ahead to:

There are two main ways of opening the tool:

  1. From the Tools menu
  2. From a place in a resource

Open the Tool from the Tools Menu

Open the Tools menu, type biblical in the search box, and select the tool from the list of options.

Open the Tool from a Resource

Right-click in a portion of text, select the linked event if present (this is mainly, but not exclusively, in Bibles), and open the tool from the menu options on the right.

Working with the Biblical Event Navigator Tool

The tool features three distinct areas:

  1. The control bar at the top
  2. The browser on the left allows you to locate an event
  3. The pane on the right provides information about the event

Control Bar

The bar at the top has a number of controls that enable:

  • a dropdown menu to select which Bible to use when displaying the text associated with the event
  • Previous and Next buttons to move up and down the list of events in the browser
  • Left and right arrows to move backward and forward between events you've viewed

Using the Browser

The browser on the left provides two ways of locating an event.

The first is to search for a particular event and then select the one you want from the filtered list:

The second is to browse through the event structure in the panel. From here, expand a section to see the events it contains, and expand additional sections to drill down to the event you're interested in.

Examining an Event

The pane on the right displays information about the event in one of two ways:

  1. One for events that contain other events
  2. Another for events at the "bottom" of an event tree

The first type contains links to lower-level events and shows the relevant biblical passages. You can hover over one of the references to see the biblical text. Above the event information, you'll find links to Factbook articles related to the event.

The second type contains links to lower-level events and shows the relevant biblical passages. You can hover over one of the references to see the biblical text. Again, above the event information, you'll find links to relevant Factbook articles.

Click a Factbook link to open the relevant article.
