You can share Verbum documents, like notebooks, reading plans, and prayer lists, with Faithlife groups so that your group can view or collaborate. Faithlife groups are online communities for fellowship with other believers where you can share posts, make prayer requests, discuss your Bible reading, and much more. You can also create smaller groups of people within a Faithlife group, called subgroups, with whom you can share specific Verbum documents.

Create a Faithlife Group
1. Sign in to Faithlife.com.
Navigate to Faithlife.com and Sign in. If you don’t yet have a free account, you can create one in a few seconds by clicking Register.
2. Select Create group.
Note: If you are already connected to a group, the Create group button may not display for you. You can still create a group by clicking the gray plus icon in the Groups panel in your left-hand sidebar.
3. Choose a group type.
Faithlife is perfect for any group, like a church, club, or small group. Choose a group type, and select Next.
4. Provide essential group info.
Add a unique Group Name. No other groups on Faithlife can share your exact name. Add a Location, which makes your group more discoverable for others in your area. Your Privacy Level changes how discoverable you are on Faithlife.com. Click Next.
5. Add additional group details.
Finally, provide additional group details. The more details you provide, the easier it will be for your people to find your group on Faithlife.com.
- Group URL: your group’s unique URL (what follows faithlife.com/). To customize your group URL, select the text in the input box and insert your own text (spaces not allowed).
- Tagline: a short description of the group that will appear under the group’s name on the group’s homepage (and on your Faithlife Site’s homepage).
- Nickname: a shortened name or abbreviation for the group that displays for your group members. This nickname will appear in Verbum when you are selecting a Faithlife group to share with.
- Group Email: group’s key contact’s email address (e.g., the official church email address).
- Group Phone: group’s key contact’s phone (e.g., the official church phone number).
- About: provide a description for the group’s About page.
6. Finalize group creation.
When you’re finished, click Done. Your Faithlife group’s Activity feed will open.
7. Invite people to your Faithlife group.
While viewing your Faithlife group, click Invite in the top right.
By default, you'll invite people as Members. To invite people as Followers, Moderators, or Admins, click Members and choose a different Add option (depending on your role in the group, not all of these options will be available to you). A person’s role in your group determines the level of control they have over group content and permissions:
- Followers can interact with public content or content marked for followers.
- Members can actively participate in the life of the group by posting on the group page, sending messages to others, and interacting with the group’s content.
- Moderators help manage group content and have higher access to group settings and permissions.
- Admins have complete control over group content, settings, and permissions.
Note: Admins of your church group can customize your group content permissions for each of these roles. Learn more.
Enter email addresses (or names if they already have a Faithlife account), and then confirm your choice in the dropdown below. You can add people to your invitation in bulk by clicking Import CSV and uploading a CSV file with email addresses in a single column. The email addresses in the CSV files will auto-populate the To field. Faithlife only imports email addresses from the CSV file. Any other data in the CSV file will be ignored.
Note: You can invite people to join other groups, subgroups, or teams you have inviting privileges in using the +Team or subgroup option. This speeds up the invitation process if someone should belong to several groups you manage.
Consider adding a personal note to give some context to the invitation, and click Done. If invitees already have a Faithlife account associated with the email address, they can sign in and join your group. If they don’t yet have a Faithlife account, they’ll be prompted to quickly provide their name and a password to join your group and create an account at the same time.
To view someone’s status in your group, select Group Members in the left-hand sidebar. Admins can also view pending invites, resend invitations, or withdraw invitations by clicking Pending Invites on the right-hand side.
8. Share a Verbum document.
Once you've created your Faithlife group, you're ready to begin sharing Verbum documents! Simply select your group from the Verbum documents Share menu. Group members can find shared documents by opening the Documents menu and selecting the Groups tab. Learn more about sharing Verbum documents.
Note: For more details on creating Faithlife groups, see How to Create and Configure a Group.
Create a Subgroup
Admins of your church group can create subgroups inside your parent Faithlife group. Subgroups help smaller, specialized groups in your organization connect.
1. Sign in to Faithlife.com.
Navigate to Faithlife.com and Sign in. Then, select your desired Faithlife group from the sidebar.
2. Click the plus icon
in the Groups panel.
3. Choose your subgroup type and click Next.
4. Add basic information for your subgroup.
Note: Remember, each group’s privacy is independent, so you can set your parent church group to Public and your subgroup to Private or Secret. Learn more about adjusting group privacy and permissions.
5. Add optional subgroup details.
Provide a profile and header image and other optional details below, including:
- Group URL: your subgroup’s direct link on Faithlife.com (a default URL is provided, though you can change it).
