Fixing problems with Windows Installer keys for Verbum."

Problem

You may receive the following errors when attempting to update or reinstall Verbum Bible Software:

  • "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
  • "Another version of this product is already installed.  Installation of this version cannot be continued. To configure or remove existing version of this product, use add/remove program in control panel."

Solution

These errors occur because the Windows Installer did not remove all the Verbum entries from your registry or those registries have been corrupted. You can use the Microsoft Fix-it Tool to remove the registry entries that are causing the problem.

Part 1: Backup your Verbum Data

If Verbum is not yet installed, skip to Part 2.

  • Right-click the Verbum icon and select "Properties".
    • If you do not have Verbum on your desktop, right-click the Verbum icon on your task bar, and right-click where it says "Verbum Bible Software." From there click "Properties".
  • Click the "Open File Location" button.
  • Move the Data, Documents & Users folders to your Desktop.
  • Delete the remaining folders, System, Install, etc..

Part 2: Using the Microsoft "Fix it" Tool

Microsoft has created an automated tool to resolve these problems with the Windows Installer. Please try their fix below. If that does not work, move to Step 2B.

If this step was successful, skip to Step 3. If the error re-occurs, you may need to contact Microsoft for further assistance with the Windows Installer.

Part 3: Re-install & Restore your Verbum Data

Reinstall Verbum from the Installation Guide.
If Verbum was not previously installed, skip the steps below and sign in normally.

  • Verbum may open automatically; if it does, close it.
  • Right-click the Verbum icon and select "Properties".
  • Click the "Open File Location" button.
  • Move the DataDocuments & Users folders from your Desktop, to the Verbum directory.
    • Replace any files if prompted.
  • Open Verbum & sign in.
